A few things will help you get started with your voyage into the game of Age of Sigmar:.
No two ways about it, you need some models to play the game. To get started, you can make do with just a few you can play a battle skirmish with just about 10 models per side.
For your first game, you can also use different models as a stand-in if you have any from another game. Borrowing some minis from your opponent might be the best solution if you got none yet. To break up the game and add depth, a few obstacles and terrain pieces will be important:.
You will need six-sided dice and a lot of them. Get some, and accept the fact that you will lose one die at some point and it will hurt your gaming OCD, but that is the way of the dice gods. In Age of Sigmar, movement is measured in inches, so you will need something to measure that with. GW sells some perfectly fine tape measures.
While playing with yourself can be nice no phun intendedsomeone to play with will lead to a much better experience. Hopefully, you will have someone to run you through a test game your local game store might be able to help you out.
If you no one can train you, you will have to read the rules carefully and coerce one of your friends to play with you. The core rules will cover the basic aspect of the game. After reading that, you should have an ok grasp on the rules. For each hero or unit in your army, you will need a Warscroll corresponding to that unit.
There you can find the Warscroll. Downloading all those pdf files and maybe printing them out can be a biter cumbersome. Luckily, we have the AoS app to the rescue. If you find out that you really hate painting, glueing models together, making the bases nice and all of that stuff, you are in for a rough ride.

Paint, tools, brushes and so on?Let the realms ring to our fury; let worlds shake. I call now for my Extremis Chambers. Sigmar Heldenhammeralso known as the God-Kingis the god of humansthe lord of the Realm of Azyr and the supreme commander of all the Stormcast Eternals.
At the end of the final battle for the world-that-was, Sigmar fell into darkness. Only by clutching onto the last remnant of his world did he escape destruction.
Only by his unyielding will did he hold onto that metal core. Many are the tales that recount how Dracothion befriended Sigmar, helping him hang the metal core in the sky above the Realm of Azyr. Indeed, Sigmar found and awakened many other gods, creating a pantheon over which he ruled.
Cites were founded and civilizations flourished. Yet Chaos came, bringing war and plague, corruption and ruin. Few tell the tale of how Sigmar came to lose his rune-enchanted warhammer, Ghal Marazbecause few survived the Battle of Burning Skies. In the early years of the Age of Chaos, there was a time when the lands and peoples of the realms were besieged, but not yet corrupted.
Tomorrow was still a promise and not yet a threat. But everywhere dread was taking hold, for the power of the Dark Gods waxed mightily. The first incursions cut deep into the Eight Realms. Cities fell before the onslaught, yet always Sigmar, or one of his pantheon, led a counter-attack to drive off the invaders. Through the power of his immortal soul, the God-King fought off the magicks of the Lord of Change, Kiathanus.
Luxcious the Keeper, first to call herself Ur-Slaanesh, withered in the face of his unbreakable resolve. In the Realm of Fire, Sigmar led the twelve tribes of Bellicos to victory, clearing their lands for a time. Archaon was enraged.Age of Sigmar Tactics. Building an army is one of the most important and fun aspects of Age of Sigmar. When I started out with AoS, I just took the units that seemed cool and threw them together in a list.
After a few humbling losses, I quickly learned that there is a lot more to it than just getting the strongest units. Every army in AoS is different, dependent on their alliance, army composition and playstyle. Whenever I am looking for a new unit in my army I look in the following points. Even though no unit can perfectly fulfil all 6 criteria, it will give you an idea what I think is important when building an army. Your army is as strong as the weakest link.
Every unit in your army has a specific purpose and supports the rest of your army. When looking at units, make sure it fulfils at least one of the following criteria. The more criteria your units meet, the more efficient your army will be. It is important to remember that due to the dice rolls, AOS is still a game of chance. The more you improve the chances of success, the more reliable your army will become.
You can read more about building a synergy heavy army in and an earlier article on Buffs and Synergies. Movement, missile, ability and spell range will determine how much pressure your unit can put on a specific target. The more flexible the ranges of an individual unit, the more versatile it gets. Having matching ranges throughout your whole army will greatly increase their ability to compliment each other.
This way you can use your Hero, Movement, Shooting and Charge phase to optimise your options. In this scenario, it will result in firing an arcane bolt and a move to get the Terrogheist as close as possible to the Dryads.
Finally, in the charge phase, you need a inch charge to reach the Branchwych which you are never ever going to make. This will force you to chew on Dryads for at least a turn before you can get to more important units.
As shown above, all my ranges overlap. The red circle in the hero phase is dependent on the placement during the movement phase. If I move my Terrorgheist in-between Dryadsthe Branchwytch and DrychaI can potentially reach all targets with both missile fire and charges.
With some luck The Branchwych will be finished off in both phases. If it does, I get the chance to severely weaken Drycha and potentially kill her too. Stacking ranges gives me loads options to take out different targets and lets me take calculated risks. This way, if I get lucky on one of my damage rolls, I can still shoot or charge another juicy target. Understanding how the ranges of individual units complement each other will greatly help you build a coherent army.
Every battle round you have one shooting phase and two combat phases. In general, this results in melee weapons being twice as effective as shooting weapons, with the downside of them needing to be in close combat.Sign up Age of Sigmar Wiki is part of And many, many more!

Age of Sigmar Armies Guide: a Faction and Race Overview
Most units that come in those boxes are also useful on the tabletop, which is good. I think the best way to build a list is to figure out what you want your army to do.Virtual floor plan
Do you want to load up on big monsters and overwhelm the opponent with them? Do you want to blob out hordes of dudes and drown your enemy in bodies? Do you want to run an elite, hyper mobile force that plays for map control and is hard to lock down?
Do you want to try and take them apart with mass ranged weaponry? In my experience, the best armies in the game are the ones that have a tight idea of what they want to do and use every piece of their list to execute on that. A bunch of reasonably good units slapped together might seem good on paper, but good players with a focused list will take them apart with ease.

Or go the other way, pick an army whose aesthetic you like, and then figure out what they can do. Part of list building is knowing the meta and figuring out what is powerful on the tabletop so you can bring it yourself, but also knowing how to counter it and beat those meta lists. Since there is very little in the game that works at extreme ranges really only artillery and other certain shooting unitsand since Matched Play is also an objective-based game, getting around the table is super important.
While board control is not the only thing that matters, it is a huge aspect of the game and one that some armies can play better than others. As they are relatively rare, and there is very little opponents can do to stop them from happening, they can effectively allow you to set up with a massive advantage. These power rankings will answer that question, be updated monthly for new developments, and complement the amazing Honest Wargamer stats.
